As the saying goes 'all you need is a chip and a chair,' but having heart helps. That's exactly what Josip Simunic demonstrated in the 2015 High EPT Deauville High Roller. Down to three big blinds and with a whole day to go, Simunic resisted the temptation to succumb to tilt, working his way back from extreme short stack to the eventual tournament winner, scooping $350,000 in the process.
Those with a background in sports are often driven by the need for competition. Josip is no different. Whilst watching the WSOP on TV, the former semi-professional Handball player unknowingly stumbled across what would become a new antidote to his competitive itch!
Having started his poker career racking up the hours in low stakes tournaments in his native Austria, Josip's experience and ability began to grow in equal measure. Gradually progressing through the stakes, his landmark victory arrived in 2014 when he took down the Swiss Poker Championships for just under $86,000.
Josip has since been remarkably consistent, cashing eleven times in live events in 2017 alone. With over $1.3 million in live tournament winnings and an unrivalled competitive instinct, the level-headed Austrian is a force to be reckoned with!
